To Make a Difference

Posted: 02 Mar 2010, 1545 hours (Time is GMT +8 hours)

Through its overseas deployments, by staying operationally ready 24/7 and enhancing the SAF’s capabilities with cutting-edge technology, the SAF makes a difference.

Find out how the SAF keeps Singapore safe and contributes to international peace and stability from these 4 short video features.

The videos will be screened on MediaCorp Channels 5, 8, Suria, Vasantham and Channel NewsAsia between 4 Mar and 21 Mar 10.

You can also catch them on this page from 5 Mar 10.

Afghanistan

In a conflict zone, there are good days at work when all goes well, and also bad days. This video looks at life in Oruzgan, Afghanistan, where a 20-man SAF medical team was sent to provide support the UN-sanctioned, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. See how the SAF servicemen meet and overcome challenges while being miles away from home to make a difference.

Operational Readiness

Round the clock, whether home or abroad, an operationally ready SAF is always keeping Singapore safe. Find out how the SAF maintains a high state of readiness through large-scale and complex overseas exercises, regular mobilisations of NSmen and homeland security exercises.

Pre-deployment

Despite the risks and uncertainties that come with overseas deployments, many in the SAF want to make a difference through the missions that they take part in. Find out how these servicemen assigned for overseas deployments undergo carefully designed pre-deployment training to prepare them for their overseas missions.

????

The modern warfare landscape has evolved into a network-centric one. Acquisition, dissemination and utilisation of information play a big role in achieving victory. This video brings the cutting-edge technology employed by the SAF to you. The command and control systems and networks give SAF commanders the ability to make rapid decisions and execute manoeuvres during battle.

Note: The videos will be made available on this page from 5 Mar 10. Bookmark us!

Overall it was okay but I'm a bit disappointed that there is very little info about our WLR teams...frankly, its no short stay! I felt that a longer vid would be in order, this one didn't do them justice :(

Also, its kinda OT but if there are like weekly releases of pics from our personnel in Afghanistan/Somalia, even if they are doing smth non military but interesting (hey, rock throwing was kinda fun actually! :P) of course with military ones as well (manning an MG/outpost) if you keep throwing up new pics regularly, you're bound to find a fan base :)

for those who visit MilitaryPhotos.net and view thier Today's Pics thread, you'll know what I mean. You could literally say that's an international arena where the hearts and minds war is being fought. Maybe its hard to change certain negative local perceptions, but its also worth trying to win over the international community, many of whom are on a clean slate as well? :)

I believe that the photography is outsourced to foreign forces, cheaper, better and faster.

Cheers.

but that's not helping us with the frequency and volume of images and videos being published.
